Frequently Asked Questions

What are your qualifications and/or what are your license numbers?

I hold a Masters in Science from Seattle Pacific University in Marriage and Family Therapy, granted in 2019. During that program, I participated in an internship in a community mental health setting, and following graduation, I practiced in an outpatient setting, a residential setting, and a group practice setting. Throughout all of these different spaces, I gained knowledge and experience from my peers, from the humans I collaborated with in the therapeutic space, and through external trainings/offerings. I have experience teaching as an adjunct professor in a graduate program, as a clinical director, and as a supervisor for both interns and associate practitioners. I hold an active license as a Marriage and Family Therapist in both Washington state and Colorado.

What does the beginning of the therapeutic relationship look like?

Great question! After you reach out, we will schedule a time to have a free phone or video call to determine if we are in alignment for therapeutic fit. If we decide to move forward in relationship with one another, we will schedule an initial session. I will send you the appropriate paperwork to be filled out before that session, and we will meet - starting in a place that honors where you are at in your own journey. If at some point (whether that is after one meeting, five, ten, or one hundred), you decide that your needs require something different, I am happy to help you figure out what that is and to point you in the best direction I can.

Where are you located and/or where do therapy sessions happen?

I am located in Fort Collins, Colorado. All of my therapeutic sessions happen via Telehealth, with the exception of “walk-and-talk” sessions, which can happen at a confidential setting of our mutual choosing, in either Seattle, WA or Fort Collins, Colorado.
Please inquire further regarding Death Doula services, which are separate from the therapeutic relationship, and take place in Colorado.

Where do I have to be located to see you for therapy sessions?

Due to licensure standards, in order for us to enter into a therapeutic relationship, you need to reside in either Washington state or Colorado.

How long does therapy usually last?

This varies person to person! Some people are looking for a long-term collaborator and deep relationship. Others are looking for something short-term and specific. I am of the belief that duration of our relationship is generally co-created and best determined by the individual seeking out support (you). This is something I do my best to check in about frequently.

Is there a difference between death work paperwork & therapy paperwork?

Yes! These are two completely different services, so the paperwork will be different in nature. Death work paperwork will be uniquely tailored and created to fit your specific needs after we meet for a consultation. Therapy paperwork is standardized across all participants, for legal and ethical purposes.

How do I know if my insurance has OON benefits for therapy?

Your insurance company should be able to let you know what your benefits are, if any, and how they apply to your potential mental health coverage. When you contact your specific insurance company, some helpful questions to ask might be:
- Do I have any mental health coverage? What about out of network benefits?
- Is there a deductible I need to meet before my out of network benefits kick in?
- Are there any diagnoses that will not be covered for reimbursement?
- What are my reimbursement rates for out of network services?
- What CPT codes are reimburseable under my out of network mental health coverages?
- Is there a limit to the amount of sessions that will be covered for the year?

Can I use my HSA or FSA card for therapy?

Absolutely! The software I use to run payments will treat it like a regular credit card.

What is your cancellation and no show policy?

As an umbrella policy, I would request 24 hours of notice for cancellations. If the session is cancelled within the 24 hour window, or if the session is no-showed, the late/no show fee will be charged, per the informed consent statement signed at the beginning of our therapeutic relationship.

That being said, emergencies happen, sicknesses happen, being a human happens. If there is something happening in your life that is either actively (emergencies) or passively (differences in executive functioning) impacting your ability to attend our scheduled sessions, I will do my best to discuss this with you to find a solution first, rather than immediately charging you. All I ask for is communication.

Can you explain your logo?

This logo juxtaposes two contrasting elements of significance to me - the tree cholla cactus (cylindropuntia imbricata) and the bison skull. My matriarchal lineage descends from northern Mexico/New Mexico, and I have always felt most at ease on this land. The tree cholla cactus is adaptable to a wide variety of environments, and is able to thrive through the, at times, cruel conditions of the desert. The bison is an extremely important symbol to both myself and to my matriarchal lineage (the Ndé peoples). Together, these two components draw attention to the existence of life and death, simultaneously, at all moments. In such a harsh and unforgiving place, life can blossom and thrive. For me, there’s no clearer symbol that could encompass both my therapeutic orientation and death work.

What else do I need to know about you?

Killian Collaborative Therapy was born out of a desire to increase authenticity, transparency, and support in the therapeutic space, for both the practitioner and the individual seeking out services. While I have extensive training and experience as a practitioner in a formal western context, through graduate school and multiple therapeutic environments, I have wanted a space to prioritize the unpacking, decolonization, and unlearning of the many oppressive systems that are pervasive throughout the psychotherapy field.

In practice, this means action-based programs to participate in and financially support the intentionally-marginalized communities with whom I sit with the most frequently; this means consultation and involvement in groups centered on the decolonization of the therapy field; this means purposeful detachment and challenging of the current systems in place, extending from diagnosis to crisis support; and this means vulnerability and incorporation of all parts of both myself and the humans I work with, both in and out of the therapeutic space.
